Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Spotter mobile application ("Spotter", "the app", "we", "us"). By downloading, accessing, or using Spotter, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

What Spotter Is — and Isn't

Spotter is an independent, private information-sharing utility. It combines real-time public safety alerts (sourced from official channels and community reports), private family location sharing, and on-device face comparison against public watchlists and your own private list.

Spotter is NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or a representative of any government agency, emergency service, or law enforcement body. It is not a replacement for official government warning systems or emergency channels. In an emergency, always contact your local emergency services (in Australia: 000) directly — never rely on Spotter as your primary means of getting help.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Spotter to:

Submit false, misleading, or malicious incident reports
Harass, stalk, or track another person without their knowledge or consent
Attempt to identify, locate, or profile individuals based on protected characteristics such as race or ethnicity
Circumvent, disable, or interfere with the app's security, credibility, or rate-limiting systems
Use the app for any unlawful purpose

Repeated or severe violations may result in reduced report credibility, feature restrictions, or account termination, as described in our credibility and rate-limiting systems.

Face Comparison Feature

Spotter's on-device face comparison tool is provided for auxiliary assistance only. Matches are probability-based estimates, not positive identification, and must always be independently verified through official sources before any action is taken based on them. Spotter assumes no liability for actions or decisions made based on match results, database entries, or software accuracy.

Family Location Sharing

Family location sharing is opt-in and requires mutual approval between connected members. You are responsible for who you connect with and what you share. See our Privacy Policy for details on how location data is handled.

No Warranty

Spotter is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Public safety data is sourced from third parties and official feeds we do not control, and may be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Spotter and its developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app — including reliance on any alert, notification, or match result.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, without regard to conflict of law principles.
